Growing UP Greene is my first book for pleasure. What better topic could I pick than my wonderful and adventurous childhood! It's all true, oh, it happened a long time ago to be sure, but I remember it as though it were yesterday. American farms are mostly a thing of the past and I was extremely fortunate to have lived the "farm boy" life for over 10 years. Gosh it was truly great and the best part of it was that we had practically no discretionary money! As my big brother often reminds me, "it was used". Sometimes used many times over, but what ever it was, I loved it.
About the Author
Charles L. Gaby, is a retired IT Professional. He held various Information Technology (IT) management positions including Vice President of Information Systems for an international manufacturing company and for two decades was president of his own software development company which he sold in 2011. He wrote several technical manuals, including thousands of pages documenting software systems and also wrote many manufacturing systems related articles. He is a lifetime certified member of American Production and Inventory Control Society (CPIM) and remains active in software consulting.Combining pleasure writing with business writing was always a business challenge and Gaby longed for the day when the restrictions of business were removed. Fresh into retirement in 2013 produced the opportunity with "Growing Up Greene". In his first book he reminisces about his farmland childhood in northern Indiana. "Loose Stools" was not meant to be the next book, but real world events presented a gift of a story about growing old gracefully and otherwise. It also allowed his sometimes chaotic humor styles to flow. Future works include "Korean Picture Book" which is a pictorial covering his Korean tour of duty during the Vietnam war.

Entertaining Story

I have been reading more of these mini autobiographies and found this one quite pleasant. I enjoyed reading about the author's daily life and escapades growing up on a farm and not having a lot of money. I grew up in about the same time-frame and could relate to some of his adventures. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a short story that they can just relax and read for awhile.

Being from this part of Indiana myself, I found the personal and historical references very interesting and colorful. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I would like to thank the author for taking the time to document and preserve his story.

Back Home Again in Indiana

The author brought me back to a time when I lived in Indiana. A safer place for children to grow up. A world that invites simplicity. A world where a child had very little fears and most important, freedom to run wild, take some chances, have fun and enjoy childhood. The comic side of the author was quite evident as he describes the antics of growing up in a farm like-situation. He was free to run and not have to check in at a given time as most of the youth must do today. Chapter after chapter filled my mind and heart with memories of my own simple childhood. No electronics, just pure verbal communication with friends that, even today, fall into a pattern and turn back the clock when we are lucky enough to find each other again.
