About the Author
Yoshiki Teramoto was born in Kyoko, Japan in 1950. He graduated Osaka University and received his PhD on physics at Osaka City University in 1978. After working at Brookhaven National Laboratory, City University of New York, National Laboratory for High-Energy Physics in Japan, he is currently an associate professor for experimental particle physics at Osaka City University.

2.5 stars. Book needs to be edited. Explanations often inadequate

As a Ph.D. physicist who has not specialized in particle physics, I had high hopes for this book. I have read numbers of semi-popular books on the subject in the hope of getting some painless enlightenment. But was disappointed by this book. The physics is sometimes wrong, obtuse, or just poorly explained. I was alerted to this early on by his incorrect comments on E = mc^2: energy and mass are the "same" (no, they are not, or we wouldn't designate them by different words) and lifting an object in Earth's gravity field increases the object's mass (no, it increases the mass of the Earth-object system, while reducing the mass of the person who did the lifting.)

A small but annoying feature is the occasionally non-idiomatic English. For example, the author spells "vice versa" as "vise verse," and uses terms such as "commutable" instead of "commutative", and "Pauli's Exclusive Principle" instead of "Pauli's Exclusion Principle." These lapses in English are minor in themselves, but undermine confidence in the author's scholarship. This book was self-published by Dr. Teramoto, and he obviously did not have have it vetted for English and for physics by any competent person. Not a wise choice.

A few chapters are better than others, and may merit 3 or even 3.5 stars. For example, I liked his chapter 6 on classification of particles. But as a rule, the analogies he offers are either "good but not original," or "original but not good." For an example of the latter, he proposes to explain/motivate the famous uncertainty relation of Heisenberg by the oscillation of particles. A dubious idea. For the most part, I think you won't learn anything new from this book, because if you don't already understand a thing, the author's explanations will make very little sense.

Dr. Teramoto, your book shows promise. You should have enough confidence in your creation to have it reviewed and corrected by other particle physicists, and get the English polished by a native speaker.

Really helped me understand some concepts

I have a 2 year associates degree in physics, but this book is more appropriate for someone who has a bachelor's degree in physics. I have an interest in particle physics and have read about half a dozen beginner level books like this one.

What I love about the book is that he was able to explain some concepts very well. I felt like I was able to visualize many processes better than from any of the other books I read. Before, I never really understood spin or how asymptotic freedom worked. I have a much better understanding about SU(2) and SU(3) symmetries, and many other concepts.

What I didn't like about the book, is that I was only able to understand about half of it. This is most likely due to my lack of math abilities with imaginary numbers and their transformations. I think if I were better at math concepts, and put more effort in, I could have learned some basic truths about this subject. He seems to explain it very well, but it is a very difficult subject. Even though it's difficult, I still find it very rewarding and fascinating

If you're a beginner on this subject, I would recommend the free website The Particle Adventure. I also recommend going to the Wikipedia article about particle physics, and printing the purple, green, red and yellow chart with all the particles. I keep this chart handy when reading these beginner books. I feel like I finally have a basic understanding of the field.

Even though I only understood about half the book, the parts I did understand are quite remarkable.

So far it's a three. Grammar needs editing. The constant 'c' is wrong. If that's incorrect, the all the math is suspect.

In those days, Derbyshire was too far for a holiday destination, and I took little further interest until a research studentship with Professor G. E. Fogg became available in 1971. Tony Fogg had recently moved to the University College of North Wales, Bangor and the research was to be into cyanobacterium mats, with fieldwork along the Red Sea coast. The fieldwork never materialised but my interest in algal mats had been aroused. A chance stroll along the Bangor shore revealed beautifully calcified cya- bacterium mats, and Tony generously allowed me to investigate these instead. The old Plaxtol collection was retrieved and yielded abundant cyanobacteria. It became apparent that here was a wealth of information about a rock whose formation was so rapid, that the process could be studied in days rather than years – an exceptional state of affairs. A search of the literature also revealed that the rock, a form of travertine, had other unusual features.

Saran holds Master degree in horticulture with gold medal from the Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner (Rajasthan) during 2002 and obtained Ph.D. degree in Fruit Science from CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar (Haryana) in 2005. He has held junior research officer (Horticulture) position at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar from December, 2006 and since March 2012, working as Senior Scientist (Horticulture) at Indian Agricultural Research Institute Regional Station, Pusa, Samastipur (Bihar). Dr. Saran bestowed with Young Scientist Fellowship Award during 2014-15 from the Department of Science and Technology, Science & Engineering Research Board, Government of India, New Delhi. He has authored more than 45 research publications in horticulture field.

Dr. I. S. Solanki holds Ph.D. degree in (Genetics) Plant Breeding from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi during 1991. He has held Assistant Scientist, Scientist and Senior Scientist (Fruit Breeding) positions at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, India from September, 1980. Currently, he is working as Head, Indian Agricultural Research Institute Regional Station, Pusa, Samastipur (Bihar) since Feburary, 2009. He has released fourteen varieties and registered four germplasm lines in agricultural crops, and authored more than 100 research publications in relevant field.

Dr. R. Choudhary holds Master degree in Biotechnology during 2008 and obtained Ph.D. degree in Science from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 2012. BRETT N. STEENBARGER, PhD, is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, where he also serves as the Director of Student Counseling. Dr. Steenbarger has published over fifty peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on topics related to brief therapy, including standard reference entries in The Psychologist's Desk Reference and the Encyclopedia of Psychotherapy. Read this book!

This is a ridiculously good trading book. I should know; I’ve read well over a hundred of them. I’m very surprised it doesn’t have more than 4 stars. If you are a trader and you’re considering reading this book, do. I strongly recommend not even getting it at the library, but instead buy yourself a copy so that you can mark it up as you read. The author is a psychologist, and quite obviously a good one, and also a trader. By trader, I mean a real trader, not some guy that dabbles in the markets because he’s always had more money than he knows what to do with. And if him being a good psychologist and a real trader doesn’t make you want to read the book, then I can’t help you. I’ve read at least 3 other books by people that were both traders and psychologists and I got more from this author and enjoyed it more also. I’ve read another of his books also and I will be reading all of his books in due time.

An in-depth look at trading psychology

There are a lot of books these days about trading and trading psychology. It's great to have so much selection but it's getting harder to make a choice about which one's to read. I decided to let the reader's reviews guide me this time and they didn't steer me wrong.
I appreciated the way the author uses profound insights that he has gained as a trader and leveraged his experiences as a psychologist to create vivid examples. I found many of the ideas to be extremely useful and applicable to my methods and the writing style keeps the information very interesting.

a fascinating trip that will help you in all areas of life

The Psychology of Trading is one of those books where you will make a lot of discoveries about yourself and about your life, if you are paying attention, that all tie into trading.

Steebarger is a psychologist specializing in "brief therapy" and also an active trader. The book has chapters that discuss an in-depth story of a patient, and draw lessons from that story about life, cognition, and trading.

It is an awesome book. I have read Douglas and I have Ari Kiev's book which I will read one of these days, but I can't see how it can top Steenbarger's.

Steenbarger says that we have many personalities, and he shows you how you can identify which personality is doing what, and trigger the "Observer" in you, a part of you that is watching and that can see the truth of what you are doing and why you are doing it. This isn't as Zen as it sounds. And Steenbarger has technique after technique in each chapter, so it isn't a bunch of generalizations and observations.

The first technique (which I have done for some months now and read that Larry Connors and Linda Raschke also do and you probably do too) is to keep a detailed trading journal with your thoughts, feelings, what is happening, why you are taking a trade, etc.

The second technique is to excercise in the morning (he does stretching and some calisthenics) and then talk out loud and explain each of your trading plans. Something about talking out loud and explaining your plans lets your brain process differently and he says you can identify what is really good, find holes and see potential traps or things you haven't thought through.

I am on the fourth chapter and I just love this book.

Poetry undressed

The best book on poetry explication I've ever seen! As a student or just someone who loves poetry, this text breaks down the elements of poetry in a clear and almost poetic way to aid in the understanding of what poetry is. Throughly enjoyable to read. Lots of examples of classic poetry are explicated line by line to show how poets do what they do and the importance of each syllable. A great book and fabulous resource.

pretty hot little diddly!

Naughty little tale of centaurs to be breeders with human woman to repopulate their forces. Of course, the ladies are all virgins, which makes it all the more naughty, I guess. Anyway, I love the part where he takes her on the rock, and she doesn't scream, and cry, and try to pick his eyes out, but instead, just loves sex from the first penetration. Like sleeping with Donkey Kong. Just all like, ok, I'm pliable, sure. And then she has this earth shattering orgasm, tht no human male could have achieved with her, right anyway, she is ruined and becomes, one of them by rights of deflowering. Anyway, they lived horsily ever after.

It's very rare that I leave reviews, even when I hate the book, but this one was so bad, I wanted my 2.99 back. I don't mind short, but it's short and shallow, and the point of it is as a short erotic book? Failed. It's only the equivalent of a scene, and it's epically bad. Don't spend your money until this author goes back to Eng 201 and finishes learning her craft. Sorry FT.

About the Author
This book was a collaborative effort of Ben Muraskin, Sam Muraskin and Sharon Fyffe. It was initiated by Ben upon his retirement in 2009. It was intended to tell the story of how he and his family had come to be separated during his childhood. Ben lives in Omaha, Nebraska with his wife and three children. He has since gone back to work buying tax liens. His passions are finance and quiet contemplation. Sam Muraskin lives with his wife and twin boys in Vero Beach, Florida. Sam is a physician and loves music. He has released three albums of acoustic/comedy music with his band Salmon Sam and maintains the band website at www.myspace.com/astepabovecrap. Sharon Fyffe lives in West Park, Florida. She is a property owner and city commissioner. She is a former art teacher. She loves all kinds of art, especially painting. She has five children and nine grandchildren who treasure her.

Fictionalized account?

I happen to have known this family, and I do not believe there is much fiction in this story. What happened to these children was a crime. It just goes to show that "truth is more amazing than fiction!" I'm glad the story has been told, and hopefully someone will learn a few lessons from it.
